The CHRISTmas EXperience Sponsorship Program Overview
The CHRISTmas EXperience is a holiday giving program designed to help low-income families in Newport News, Henrico County, and Richmond City, VA, celebrate the holiday season without the worry of trying to pay the necessary bills and provide gifts for their children.

This program is open to families located in all 3 localities with at least one child 12 and under whose income is no more than 20% above the federal poverty level.

How to apply for the program
Anyone wishing to apply for the program must fill out an online application. This will be the ONLY way to apply as we will not have paper applications. Please upload the following applicable documents to be found eligible (A google account sign-in will be required for document upload):
  • A valid driver’s license or other form of valid photo identification with your current address. Expired ID will not be accepted. If the address on your ID card does not match your current address include a current document (withing the last 60 days) with current address listed.
  • Proof of income for the entire household. This includes any proof of any earned income as well as proof of any assistance any family member receives. Acceptable documents include but are not limited to: Two(2) most current paystubs from work, DHS statements which detail how much assistance is received, Section 8 voucher with income and children listed. Copies of EBT cards are not accepted.
  • Proof of guardianship for the children. This includes birth certificates, letters of guardianship, or a letter from their school on official letterhead. Copies of social security cards, report cards, or medical records will not be accepted.

​Once this information has been received and verified, your application can be approved and your family will be made available for sponsorship. 

How will my family know if we have been selected for sponsorship?

If your family has meet all the requirements and have been selected, you will receive a phone call or email between November 12th-November17th with more information. It is VERY important that you provide a working phone number and email address. If you have been selected for sponsorship but we cannot get in touch with you because the phone number or email address provided doesn’t work, we will move forward and select another family.

What can I expect if I am sponsored?

All sponsored families can expect to receive gifts for all registered children. Whether we decide to provide any gifts for additional family members will be at our sole discretion.

When can I apply for The CHRISTmas EXperience?  
We will be begin accepting applications starting October 4th until October 11th. After October 11th, no new applications will be accepted.
